Practical Teacher

Understand the concepts. Explore your approach. Build your own solution.

A ChatGPT teaching assistant maintained by Enrique Fernández Blanco, designed to support students working through the public Machine Learning I notebooks.

Guidance for independent learning

The assistant uses the public MIA_ML1 repository as its course reference. The materials cover Julia, multilayer perceptrons, overfitting, classification metrics, multiclass classification, cross-validation, machine learning libraries, ensembles and dimension reduction.

Concepts

Explanations and general examples to help you understand Julia and machine learning.

Hints

Questions and suggestions that help you reason through an exercise yourself.

Code feedback

Constructive feedback on your attempts, including why an error occurs and directions to explore.

The assistant is instructed to respond in English and to avoid giving complete solutions to course exercises. Its guidance supports your learning; it does not replace the notebooks, teaching staff or assessment instructions.

How to use the assistant

The replacement plugin is being prepared for public publication. Its public installation link will be added here after publication and access checks.

  1. Once available, install the plugin in ChatGPT and select ML1 MIA - Practical Teacher using the plugin menu or an @ mention where supported.
  2. Identify the notebook by its title and the exercise or section you are working on. Include its public link.
  3. Explain what you have tried. Share a relevant code excerpt and the error message when useful.
  4. Ask for an explanation, a hint or feedback, then develop and test your own solution.

Example questions

If the assistant cannot retrieve a notebook, provide the relevant exercise text or attach the notebook. Do not assume it has read a source unless it can identify the relevant material.

Privacy information

Last updated · 8 October 2026

This plugin provides reusable instructions for ChatGPT and references publicly accessible course notebooks. The inspected plugin package does not contain a custom server or a configured integration that sends student conversations to the maintainer.

ChatGPT and public sources

Your messages, code excerpts and uploaded files are processed in ChatGPT. Their handling depends on your account settings and OpenAI's applicable policies. Reading public notebooks may involve requests to GitHub or the source hosting service. Review the privacy information of the services you use.

Do not include passwords, access tokens, student identifiers, grades or confidential datasets in your questions.

Support enquiries

Support enquiries sent to enrique.fernandez@udc.es arrive directly in the maintainer's institutional UDC email account. Your email address and the information you choose to send are used to handle your enquiry. Contact the same address with questions about information you have supplied through support.

Data categories and recipients

When you use the assistant, ChatGPT processes the prompts, code excerpts and files you provide. The maintainer does not receive or store those conversations through this plugin. If you contact support, the maintainer receives your email address, any sender name, your message and any attachments you choose to send. These are processed in the institutional UDC email service for support. OpenAI processes ChatGPT content, and GitHub processes requests to its hosted website and public repository under their respective policies.

Retention and user controls

The plugin has no maintainer-operated conversation database, so the maintainer retains no conversation records through the plugin. ChatGPT content retention and deletion options depend on OpenAI's policies and your account settings. You can use the controls available in ChatGPT to manage or delete your chats. GitHub determines retention of hosting-related records under its own policies.

Support emails and their attachments are retained in the institutional mailbox for up to 12 months after the enquiry is resolved, then deleted, unless an applicable legal or institutional obligation requires longer retention. Any longer retention is limited to the information and period required by that obligation.

For support messages held in the institutional mailbox, you can contact enrique.fernandez@udc.es to request access, correction or deletion of information you supplied, subject to applicable institutional and legal obligations. Do not send additional sensitive information when making a request.

The supplied website code contains no analytics scripts, tracking cookies, forms or embedded third-party resources. If hosted on GitHub Pages, hosting-related processing is governed by GitHub's privacy policies.

Relevant service policies: OpenAI privacy policy and GitHub privacy statement.
